Snowed in is a resource management, virtual pet game, where the player must manage a Viking’s needs. while he is snowed into a cabin.
The needs that the player must manage of the Viking are:
- Hunger (which is managed by eating food laid out on the table)
- Thirst (which is managed by drinking from the keg)
- Energy (which is managed by sleeping)
- Sanity (which is managed by dancing by the fire)

Project Design Goal
Create a short game based on the prompt a digital being in Unreal Engine 5 using only free assets available under creative commons, in the span of one week.

Detailed Information
Snowed In was made for a one week solo game project based on the prompt “A Digital Being”.
For Snowed In my goal was to take that prompt to make a digital pet style game akin to a Tamagochi or My Popgoes. In order to make the game unique however, I decided to make the player manually move between the stations where they can take care of the character in a 3D environment.
I knew from very early in development that I wanted a cute chibi style for the character, so when looking for assets that were under creative commons, I came across a viking asset that fit that style perfectly.
Once the viking asset was found, the rest of the game concept of a viking stranded in a cabin was built around that.
I aimed to balance the game by making the players resources drain quicker after sleeping, but also by increasing how many points the player gets on subsequent days.
