Detailed Information
Downsizing was made for a one week solo game project based on the prompt “Small But Fun”.
For Downsizing my goal was to take that prompt to combine the concept of a central mechanic with that mechanic being something surrounding size manipulation. Originally I planned to make the game a 2D puzzle game, with the player having the ability to shrink and grow. I struggled with this mechanic and due to the strict deadline so I decided to swap o a 3D puzzle game where the player had the ability to shrink objects.
I looked for assets that were under creative commons, deciding that I would build the level surrounding a mansion, which the player would have to use their shrinking abilities to escape. I used the first person blueprint in unreal in order to have the gun blueprint that came with it.
I aimed to build the shrinking mechanic so that it would function in several ways. The first way I aimed to use it was to get objects out of the way. The second way I aimed to use it was to make an object smaller for the player to use it in ways such as, as a step. The third was I aimed to use it was to get objects out of the way allowing for another object to move. The final way I aimed to use it was to make an item small enough for a player to pick up and use.
